Recent games like Mass Effect and Star Wars: The Old Republic have been the subjects of criticism from anti-gay campaigns. EA, the publisher of these games has received several letters that indicate disapproval of the same-sex themes that the aforementioned games portray. The letters were also said to mostly come from Florida, the base of the Florida Family Association who claimed that EA was forced by extremists to include the content.
The GamesIndustry International reports that letters were addressed to senior officials at EA with threats of boycotting EA games unless the changes they demanded were met. The chief Spokesperson of EA, Jeff Brown said,
“Every one of EA’s games includes ESRB content descriptors so it’s hard to believe anyone is surprised by the content. This isn’t about protecting children, it’s about political harassment.”
